Me performing with IFDA award-winning, Kathleen in Fallen Angels
Ladies and gentlemen,
so much to do, have wonderful new producer to help, sat with him and conspired in Dalkey last night. There was an electricity cut so we talked in candlelight – quite magical… I always sense wonder in the air when I meet a new artist to take part in the process. Keith is an artist/producer.. Lovely to talk about small detailed plans and then also the bigger picture… visions of vising paris and performing in seedy bars.. paradise!
Trying desperately to get rehearsals with musicians… hard to pin them down for friday.. otherwise looking to get posters up next week… going to go around Dublin with Mum…
Meeting up to talk about making an animation music video also… of an old fairy tale song. Nicky Phelan from Brown Bags was interested years ago in doing something with an old cynical cabaret twist on the cinderella story… Now we’re back in touch again. He just won an IFDA by the way with the script of Granny O’Grimm, my friend Kathleen O’Rourke wrote for Fallen Angels Cabaret. So was really happy for them. Kathleen will be in the show on March 10th. (see picture above and check out brownbags for more on that)
Talking to Brendan from www.crewger.ie about our documentary. What looks like the way ahead is to keep getting footage of the shows until the spiegeltent next year (September).. Then sit down and put together what we have..
We’re both too busy with other projects to focus completely on it now. But the five minute documentary we have is gorgeous… so there’s so much potential for putting something longer and with more meaning together. For me (and I think, it’s the same for a lot of us struggling in the business) it’s a question of finding a way of saying what you want to say – being brave and charged and interesting – but also to be still entertaining and accessible… So it’s that balance for the show I’m creating, ‘La Vie En Rose Lawless.’ Also, so with the Documentary.
The film, however (that beloved monster),which I will return to after March 10th, is a huge landscape of mountaineous ungoverned regions unto itself. I just have to go there alone – and hope I return in one piece. I have now almost finished three drafts… It’s wonderful wonderful wonderful though.. But it takes all my Buddhisaatva focus.. That’s why I stop blogging when I get back into it…I cannot be commercial and that intensely creative at once… When you really get into it you know why artists are known to walk around with their clothes on back to front when they are in mid-storm… As it said, thougn, it’s absolutely wonderful to be doing it..
So that’s my plan now to do the Sugar Club March tenth, Finish film for June, then prepare for Spiegeltent in the Early Autumn….
Then next year (September 2009- 2010) is clear to put together Documentary – and work to getting feature film produced – as well as touring with fully created, charged Cabaret show..
All this will be created under the umbrella title of ‘Cabaret of Pearls,’ Artistic Company. You can understand why I am so glad to have found a producer. He really is great already. He’s helping me contact agents, producers, casting people etc… all those essentials I find it hard to do when I’m holding the rudder alone…
Don’t forget to come on Friday, the best salon in dublin, love love love, Rose xxx
