She will be presenting her new voice and cello album, Dazzling Cabaret, created with the very talented Kim V Porcelli (on sale at the performances)

I have been away on an artist’s residency in a beautiful hillside fairy land called Noepoli.

The artist’s residency is called, ‘Palazzorinaldi,’ and I really recommend it.   Although I  also selfishly want to keep it a secret so I can go there as the sole guest and be treated like a Principesse again - the one word in Italian I learnt from ‘Life is Beautiful.’

It means princess and I liked it being applied to me.

I wrote a few films there - one about the place, called by its name, Palazzorinaldi.  It is also set there of course so it means I will have to return next year to film it!

Poor me.

I also rewrote two little shorts about my love for Fiodor.  The hills were alive with clarity and inspiration - I saw again the purpose of art - to weave meaning into the world where there is confusion and chaos… to do more than hold the mirror up… to shed light on the road..

Have plans to make these films during the year under the title of the artistic company, ‘Cabaret of Pearls’.  One of the films is set in the spiegeltent so don’t be surprised if you see me around the festival this year, followed by cameras again.  You know this is how I feel most at home in the world.

And on the subject of Spiegeltents, if you remember, it was in a spiegeltent, that Fiodor and I, first met.  What a dazzling cinematic climactic event!!

Speaking of festivals,  as you will be able to see from my home page, I I am going to be performing three shows at the famous Electric Picnic 2009!  It’s part of ‘The Body and Soul,’ section of that enormous tinker’s wedding on wheels..  Kim V Porcelli is going to accompany me on cello for two of the dates, the 4th and 5th… And we are cutting a special once off voice and cello album for that event.

Also, I have been asked to mc CRASH TEST CABARET, a show by Emma Pearson, in this year’s FRINGE THEATRE FESTIVAL!! This will be held in the basement of FILMBASE.  Of course as a Cabaret Buddhist spiritualist who believes in healing from the dungeon up, this is splendidly portentous for me in a year set to be full of films…

Most importantly, I am still writing the big script… And it’s making a better person of me… very humbling theme, character, purpose… I have had to write so much and let go so much, draft three… and I plod on..

But I have begun a habit of writing late into the night, after trips to the sea to look at the moon and stars, to listen to the waves of my beautiful home strand…

I returned to Bray after Noepoli, Agropoli, Paestum where I saw Greek wonders of the world…

And Bray, dear friends, is as beautiful as anywhere you can go… And the night sea and mountains speak to me - and I come home to write fuelled with film visions…

Crewger night was magical in The Shed.  It is amazing what Elizabetta has done with that warehouse… it was one of those great great parties…  where you meet artists without meeting assholes…. rare..

My two friends did their thing, Kathleen O’Rourke with her comedy partner, Gearoid Farrelly - and Clodagh Downing.. It was great.  Myself and Kim V Porcelli played really well to finish off the night - so I’m really happy with the energy of the music at the moment.  It’s really growing..

Most importantly we had our first film screening.  Me, Pauline and Eimear - what Fiodor calls, ‘Girls Power,’ - it was great.  Like I know we’re all only learning - and some people had some faults with it - but the magic of having it up there was great.  I’ll put it up on the site so you can see it, flaws and all - its kind of niaive medieval icon drama - but it has its vision - and that will only grow as we learn to use our tools.

I find you just keep learning by doing - or as a robert frost said ‘we learn by going where we have to go,’ that’s really true for me at the moment - I’m learning by going where the art is taking me - where I have to follow or deny existence/

A friend said once to me recently - you’re like a one woman art movement.  I feel like that.  It’s a joke but it’s somehow true for me at the moment.  There’s a great creative force of fun, integrity, passion, courage and intelligence declaring itself in me - and I just have to go with it.  Life is not about finding a comfortable luxurious place to stay still - it’s about declaring life in the struggle and tension of things.   There is the healing - the flame of peace in the eye of stormy weather.

I’m creating a new show for this year’ s electric picnic and the dublin fringe called, ‘Declaring the Revolution of Cabaret.’  Currently writing this - afterwards will return to screenplay - and have plans in the summer for painting.  From August to september will be gigging the Cabaret revolution, recording an album, rehearsing, - then in October I can return to writing…  It’s very dynamic but not exhausting…

Really enjoying it -and surrounded by exciting daring people!  Congrats to Brendan of Crewger for finding Elizabetta’s shed, this is going to be a really really great monthly new departure in the independent dublin film making…  Let’s just enjoy the magic of the first innocent early days…

Will tell you more later.  At the moment am absorbed in reading about the revolutionary cinema of the fifties and sixties!  Inspired for Artistic Company - meeting with Brendan from Crewger for first music video tomorrow evening!  Meditating by sea again now weather has changed… the best on  your own doorstep…

entertainment at the sugar club

Rehearsed all morning and things are good with the girls.. am happy with the fun arising out of the good familiarity with the material..  still thinking about the poetry of auden… it followed me into the faces of the drugged out ghosts of rialto..

i saw an irish girl dressed in romanian clothes holding her two little sallow skinned girls… thought her story would be a good one to write…

then into a newsagent where you see all the corruption advertised on newspaper headlines - people just incredibly greedy - plus budget cuts for hospitals and children with learning difficulties…

Read a speech from gormley’s party conference.  it was good.

would throw my lot in with the green’s… work with them again..

anyway, a lot in the pot.

Show tomorrow.  It is a goer.

Rose in Red

last night in la catedral was truly beautiful..

a great spot for exploring the art of performance.. i finished the night asking some other artists up to join me… the audience clapped and stamped their feet - and we had a mini cabaret revolution..

preparation for the big one.

have to get the proposal in for the fringe festival by march sixth.

That’s where the doco is going now.

FIRST DON’T FORGET MARCH TENTH IN SUGAR CLUB… SO MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING NOW. IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT NIGHT!!!
