By the canal, I saw a mellow peach house. The colour struck me as unusual – but suddenly the impression was transformed into one of perfect beauty, when I saw a bowl of oranges in the front window. The fruit wasn’t posing for show but looked like an accident of life – and I, the peach, the light and the fruit had a quiet moment of colour happiness.

About the light, it was blinding today. Me and the other punters had to stand at the traffic lights with our hands as visors and still couldn’t see the coming traffic. Still, the autumn light has a more serene quality than the summer – and even if it’s strong enough to blind, it never glares like a young summer.

It’s more elegant and subtle, like the clothes and jewelry I am surrounded by in ‘Lulu’s,’ of Monkstown, where I’m working this week.

I get about an hour’s creative writing done every day, all in all, in between the visiting customer’s and everything else – and, as I wrote here today, I realised, that I would like the plot to be as exquisitely stitched as a well made French dress.

And it also struck me, that writing is also, like, somehow, stitching the fabric of my own life, as thoroughly and quietly as I can – but with words. And characters. And images.

And I feel today that there is no more beautiful environment than Lu lu’s for me to do this in.

Hats, scarves, earrings, dresses, coats, brooches, they are all made to express a woman’s inner dreams of elegance and mystery and beauty.

Other news. Today, I got a great kick when I saw the promotion for my album launch and Christmas show in The New Theatre.

They have used photos from my photo shoot with Lulu clothes and Kate Betts hats (as shown below – me topless, well you know what sells!) so that’s nice poetry too, isn’t it? Will be posting up the new Christmas show s today – and details of the album launch.

I’m working in Lulu’s Vintage shop in Monkstown, today – and until Saturday. It’s like walking into the dream I’ve been aspiring to create for myself and my business, the last few years.

It’s a beautiful turquoise shop, filled with French Designer Vintage treasures, each piece with its own, what I can only call the famous ‘je ne sais quoi’.

There are no other words that I can find, for this elusive, elegant Parisian quality, that I and many others admire and aspire to, but that I am completely and joyously immersed in here.

What a good place for me to realise my Cabaret and business dreams.
I’m sitting here, easily chatting with customers and enthusing about both the beautiful place and its contents.

And in between, I am doing some creative writing and taxes… the two side of the one cabaret coin. (I have new Christmas dates and plans – and I’ll be posting them all up tomorrow!!!)

Visiting Lulu’s of Monkstown is like going to paris and taking in an an art gallery, a Haute Couture fashion museum and an elegant boutique, all in one.

I love it here. Veronique Piales is an artist. As is her in- house milliner, Kate Betts, who has just gone to France for two weeks to work for Dior.

Veronique is also in France currently looking for more designer vintage treasures to bring home to us. Come and see them both soon – and invest, while they’re still based in Ireland and haven’t been stolen jealously back permanently to the central source of all things with the ‘je ne sais quoi.’

I’ve been writing. I’m on my third draft of my feature since Christmas. Also, I’m painting my new poster – and some other paintings, related to my screenplay writing and other projects.

I’m planning gigs for

May 20th in the Back loft with Lady Windermere, St. Augustine st.

Rose Lawless is star entertainer at ‘A Night of Elegance.’

Charlie Chaplin Film Festival

Rose is the star entertainment for a, ‘A night of Elegance,’ organised by Noelle Campbell-Sharpe, in Waterville, Kerry, on 27th August, 6pm. This is to form part of the ‘Charlie Chaplin’ comedy film festival being held the same weekend. Rose will be dressed in Charlie Chaplin- inspired Vintage elegance, courtesy of Lulu French Vintage and kate Betts millinery. She will be accompanied by the gifted Julie Cruickshank on grand piano.

She will also be entertaining in the Lulu Vintage ‘Pop up’ shop on the 28th in Waterville. Come check out the French designer clothes, the katebetts miillinery  - and the Cabaret!
